AED Registration Program
Welcome to the Scotland County EMS AED Registration Program!
We are committed to enhancing the safety and preparedness of our community. As part of this initiative, we invite citizens and businesses to register their Automated External Defibrillator (AED) devices. By participating in this program, you will play a crucial role in helping emergency responders and 9-1-1 telecommunicators save lives during cardiac emergencies.
Why Register Your AED?
When you register your AED, the location and details of your device will be entered into the 911 center's computer system. In the event of an emergency where an AED is needed, the 911 telecommunicator can quickly identify the nearest registered AED and direct the caller to its exact location. This swift action can make a significant difference in saving a life.
How It Works:
Register Your AED: Fill out the AED Registration Form with essential information about your AED device, including its location, accessibility, and maintenance status.
Integration: Once registered, the details of your AED will be integrated into the 911 center's system.
Emergency Response: During an emergency, the 911 telecommunicator can direct callers to the nearest AED, ensuring timely assistance until emergency responders arrive.
Your Role in Community Safety
By registering your AED, you contribute to a safer environment for everyone in Scotland County. Your proactive participation can provide critical support in life-threatening situations, increasing the chances of survival for those experiencing cardiac emergencies.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About AEDs
What is an AED?
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable medical device that analyzes the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, delivers an electrical shock to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm during sudden cardiac arrest.
Who can use an AED?
AEDs are designed to be used by laypersons with little to no medical training. They provide clear voice prompts and visual cues to guide the user through the process.
Why is it important to register AEDs?
Registering AEDs ensures that emergency responders can quickly locate and access these life-saving devices in the event of a cardiac emergency, increasing the chances of survival.
Where should AEDs be placed?
AEDs should be placed in easily accessible locations with high foot traffic, such as schools, workplaces, gyms, community centers, and public buildings. The devices should be located in areas where the general public can access them, not locked away in a room or closet.
How do I register my AED?
To register your AED, you can visit our website [insert website link] and fill out the registration form. You will need to provide details such as the AED's location, make, model, and contact information for the device's custodian.
How often should AEDs be maintained?
AEDs should be regularly inspected and maintained according to the manufacturer's guidelines. This typically includes checking the battery, pads, and overall functionality of the device.
Are there any legal protections for using an AED?
Yes, many regions have Good Samaritan laws that provide legal protection to individuals who use AEDs in good faith during an emergency. Please check local laws and regulations for specific details.
Can using an AED cause harm?
AEDs are designed to only deliver a shock if the device detects a life-threatening arrhythmia. The chances of causing harm are minimal compared to the potential life-saving benefits.
What training is required to use an AED?
While AEDs are user-friendly and designed for untrained individuals, receiving formal CPR and AED training can increase confidence and effectiveness in using the device during an emergency.
What should I do if I use an AED?
After using an AED, it is crucial to contact emergency services immediately, even if the person regains consciousness. Follow the device's prompts and provide any necessary care until professional help arrives.
