Health Care Reform (The Affordable Care Act)

You may be hearing a lot about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the North Carolina Health Insurance Marketplace (the "Marketplace"). All consumers - insured, underinsured and uninsured, who want to shop for policies, can access the Marketplace. Before you shop, there's important information you should know.

Selecting a Policy

Many Marketplace health insurance policies will be very different from the policies sold today. In short, not all doctors and hospitals are part of every plan. It is important that you carefully select a policy that will reflect your doctor and hospital preferences.

Applying for Insurance

Individuals applying for insurance in the Federal Marketplace can go online to apply. Some consumers will need help with the new application and enrollment process. The national number for assistance is 800-318-2596, local help can also be found. A person can also apply through the North Carolina online application at ePASS.
